Inaugurated in 1992, the Museum of Tautavel, European Center of Prehistory, is a formidable tool at the service of the popularization of sciences related to archeology and particularly to prehistory over the periods of the Mediterranean quaternary.

Guided tour through 22 rooms, the Prehistory Museum invites you to meet the Man of Tautavel, the oldest man found on French soil (-450,000 years).

The Prehistory Museum presents its exceptional archaeological collections with modern museography means so that this distant past becomes understandable to all audiences.

Life-size reconstructions

Thanks to faithful reconstructions of scenes from Prehistory, you dive into the heart of the Tautavel valley and take a fabulous journey among men, animals and landscapes.

A life-size reconstruction of the cave of Arago (place of discovery of the Man of Tautavel) allows you to immerse yourself in the authentic habitat of this ancestor.
